Richmond Hill High School’s boys’ varsity volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated. After the team experienced an unexpected defeat during the first round of the playoffs, they reflected on the many skills and memories they learned to help navigate the future. “I learned about teamwork and to appreciate them [teammates],” freshman Kartigeya Suresh said. “I listen to my seniors.”
Not only did the boys’ varsity volleyball team learn important skills, but they managed to achieve a perfect 10-0 record in the spring 2025 PSAL regular season. This performance earned them two rankings in New York State: #6 statewide and #5 within the PSAL section 12. They emerged victorious over several rival schools including Hillcrest and John Adams High School, to name a few.
Senior Jayden Torres expressed his subtle disappointment about his team not winning during the playoffs. “It was disappointing the way it ended but overall, it’s a good season,” he said. He remains hopeful of what the future has in store for himself and his fellow teammates, adding the need for him to be “more confident in sports.”
As the playoff run came to an end, Richmond Hill aims to use past challenges as a manual to ‘set’ the future. Sophomore Gerald Munsamy said, “Communication is key in any part of life; everything is a mental game,” he said. “You could be physically fine, but you have to also be mentally fine.”
