For months, students and staff at Richmond Hill High School have been questioning why the library’s reopening has been postponed. After several delays due to renovation issues, Principal Alamarie has confirmed that the library will be reopening in June, at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
Principal Alamarie stated that the library was originally scheduled to open on December 9th, 2024; however, upon inspection of the renovations, it was discovered that the work was done incorrectly. The floor’s foundation was cracked and not leveled properly. “We want the best for our students” he said, explaining that the school could not approve of the work just yet.
Insurance teams and the school construction authority worked on evaluating the issue and concluded that the major problem was the improper leveling of the floors. Unfortunately, this issue caused the library to require ten additional weeks of renovation, ultimately delaying the library’s reopening date further.
The new library will come with a diverse range of features. This includes a traditional large space with books complimented by two sub-rooms. According to Principle Alamarie, students are still welcome to stay or study in the library during their respective lunch periods. New seats, tables, and over 50 new computers will be widely accessible to both students and teachers. In addition, the library will house 50% of its old books and welcome a wide range of new ones. Books that are too old will be donated upon review.
The updated design will house different activities such as quiet studying, research, tutoring and group work. The new divisions make it possible for students to focus on their work more because the partitions are glass and soundproof. The glass partitions also serve as a writable space, which functions as a great interactive element for class learning.
With these new features, Richmond Hill High school welcomes the reopening of the much awaited library.
